And tonight I'm supposed to be going to a party and I think I've forgotten how to be social + look nice.

It's a strange transition to make; to go from silence to small talk and big talk.

We'll see how this goes...Naomihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01220669689090358625noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4612750271212985349.post-63816709681816631262015-05-13T19:00:00.000+01:002015-05-13T19:00:07.536+01:00ReflectionsHaving just read through my blog I still can't get over the direction my life has taken.
I started this blog in 2009- that's 6 years ago, I was 16 years old and still at boarding school.
Within this time I've seen my desire to travel increase and funnily enough it has happened during this interim blogging break.

Last summer was probably the start of it. I decided one day, probably about this time last year that I was just going to go to Bordeaux to see a friend. I booked a one-way flight and thought I'd find my way back to Edinburgh in time for my internship. This took me through France, with a stop-off in Paris for the weekend, to Brussels for a day (my first time staying in a city alone) and then flying to Bodrum to meet my parents for a week before flying back to Edinburgh.

Travel is so amazing, but it doesn't have to be distant. Since my travelling experience last summer I became braver (is that right?!)and started to travel within my country. I've explored so much more of Scotland and it has been incredible. This is such a beautiful country and I didn't even realise until 2.5 years living here- how ridiculous!

I just got on my bicycle and rode to places, taking in the air, the beauty and sounds of nature.

And that's crazy too because without those experiences I doubt I would have got this job, or maybe even wanted to stay in Scotland.

If you go back far enough, you see how homesick for Surrey I used to be, but now Edinburgh is home.

To shift your heart to a new city is a big thing.

I've come to realise though, that it is not possible to flourish when planted in two places. You must decide where you put your roots, to allow them to get the depth they need for nutrition.

In the next 2 years I'm going to be moving around again and I anticipate it to be tough, but I've learned so much from resettling 400 miles North.

I am now 9 days away from the end of university.

4 years later and so very much has changed.

I cannot believe how much I have learnt within the academic sphere, the workplace and just out and about in daily life.
I feel like a lot changed when I hit 21, which is now over a year ago. It sounds ridiculous that a new age can change things, but it truly did for me. At 21, I essentially moved away from home properly, since that birthday I haven't been to my parent's for longer than 2 weeks at a time.

I am now 22, about to finish uni and have a graduate job lined up for September, conditional on getting a 2:1. 3 more exams to get there.Naomihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01220669689090358625noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4612750271212985349.post-24585695813788647242013-10-12T13:52:00.001+01:002013-10-12T13:53:12.560+01:00~ T O K Y O ~

The Pin
Just from doing a simple Google Image search (how good is that function though!?) I found that these are the Reversible Destiny Houses in Mitaka, Tokyo.
Here's a bit of information from Wikipedia about them.
They were made in memory of Helen Keller and these lofts make up a nine-unit multiple dwelling. It was the first completed example of
procedural architecture put to residential use.
Through its construction, the Reversible Destiny Lofts – Mitaka invite optimistic and constructive action to
help residents live long and ample lives.
How cool is that!? You can find more information on the website.

So, how to get to Mitaka?
It's a suburb of Tokyo, and you can get the train from either Tokyo Station, which takes just over 30 minuts, or from Shinjuku which is only a 15 minute journey.

How to get to Tokyo?
Flights are expensive, but going that far around the world was always going to be.
Cheapest flights I could find are in January and to go for a decent amount of time would cost £564, with a crazy long stopover making the total transit time 30 hours!
That's flying from LHR to Tokyo Narita, stopping over in Munich.

Although I would love to fly with the Hello Kitty plane there! I could take that from Taipei to Tokyo!

I have a friend who lives in Osaka and she has said I can come to visit her, so I must make the most of that whilst she's there...I was kind of hoping to go to Japan after I graduate, but maybe I shouldn't wait that long- although it's less than 2 years now!

In second year I did an outside course on Japanese culture. My specialist topic assigned to me was Japanese leisure culture and there's so much to it!
Shopping is a massive deal and I really want to visit Shibuya 109 which is basically a giant shopping centre.

You have to go whilst you're young I think though because otherwise you'd feel highly out of place. Although I guess in Japan I'll look out of place everywhere as a taller than average mixed race girl.

I'm excited!Naomihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01220669689090358625noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4612750271212985349.post-58196962106148756262013-10-11T22:14:00.000+01:002013-10-11T22:14:29.755+01:00Poor effortMy blogging efforts have been poor recently. I think I've been lackikng inspiration. However, I'm going to have a fresh approach.
Next week I am going to Iceland to see the Northern Lights. This is something I've wanted to do for years. Thus I am excited. However, I don't want to be sad once I've been there because then what will I look forward to, but instead set my sights on how practically I'm going to see all the places in the world I want to visit.
I have a pinterest board called I just want to see the world and I'm going to work through that as a start and look at how I would get to these places and what I'd do and see. It currently has 82 pins and is ever increasing.I'm going to start from the first thing I pinned- Tokyo. Next post it will be there.Naomihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01220669689090358625noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4612750271212985349.post-28674454592071036942013-10-11T20:51:00.004+01:002013-10-11T20:51:26.195+01:00I've just been watching singing parrots on youtube.
IT IS SO GOOD. I absolutely cannot wait for the Young+Free album to be released..hence why I've downloaded a youtube copy of this song, it is just phenomenal. Obviously the quality isn't the best, but considering this and how good this song is.. how SICK is the actual album going to be!
On the Saturday we were rather wiped out as following our day in London we'd had Youth Encounter, which was mental as per and also quite late. So we decided to stick around Surrey. We went for a walk by the Thames and ended up at Hampton Court Palace gardens (I couldn't afford entry :()

The English Garden is full of roses which were beautiful.
Oh look; there's the Palace in the background. I told Karli some of the stories of it, from memory, as when I was much younger we had a season ticket and went at least 30 times.
The next day was Sunday so I spent the whole day in church, Karli came for the 6pm service, and spent the rest of the day inside Hampton Court Palace.
I managed to fall at church quite badly though, and was later to discover that I'd burst the liquid capsule under my patella..so the next day we couldn't do as much as I'd wanted to. We headed to China Town as Karli had missed having legit Asian food (it's pretty terrible in Edinburgh in general, which is surprising as there's so many international students). We also checked out Covent Garden where we picked up these gorgeous macaroons from Laduree. I personally prefer the ones I bought in Brighton last year though. Definitely heading back there.

I had to leave Karli to get the train to Victoria for her coach as I was in so much pain I thought I'd be sick, so hobbled (literally) off to the hospital.
Not the best end.Naomihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01220669689090358625noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4612750271212985349.post-8920933231683162182013-07-13T13:30:00.000+01:002013-07-13T13:30:02.616+01:00The first time ever I saw your face

The first time I went to Brick Lane was when I was preparing for my GCSE art project on street art. Since then I've loved all forms of it. Brick Lane has some truly outstanding pieces.

Next we headed East. I love Brick Lane, its one of my favourite places due to its culture clash. One end is totally Bangladeshi where we shared a curry + paratha (Indian food is not so common in the US hence why we decided to stop for some). Then the other end is totally hipster. We stumbled upon a secret sample sale, a vintage fashion market (underground may I add) and the most independent coffee shops in one strip I have ever seen. Along the way we saw the most incredible street art.

I thought this was cool. We love anti-slavery campaigns. Speaking of which have you guys heard of A21? They work to free victims of modern day slavery (human trafficking) of which there are around 27 million peeople trapped within today...greater than any other time in history (yes, even when slavery was legal, there were less slaves!)

In my last post I mentioned how Karli wanted to see street art. Here's some great examples. I don't know who this artist is, but these pieces are magnificently huge.

The next thing we stumbled across were these bizarre creations.

It was fun to describe these British-isms to my American friend. The fact that we do such things just for fun I think was slightly absurd to her. I guess it stems from the American stereotype of Brits as uptight/conservative..which I guess we are in some senses, yet our humour is deep routed as a nation, although slightly dry and self-deprecating, very amusing.

Things you'd hear around your neighbourhood. A lot of them you're more likely to hear in the North/Midlands (where I grew up) which was fun to see. Maybe that's part of the point though, to get Londoners to have a slightly greater neighbour-mentality.

Loved that the Festival of Neighbourhood incorporated the nations. This piece had a poem playing inside of it, read by the school children who did the painting/design. It was slightly creepy, but very fun.

More to come...Naomihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01220669689090358625noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4612750271212985349.post-24450546092521935212013-07-09T20:06:00.000+01:002013-07-09T20:06:08.336+01:00Children of the light

Hi. I'm back, after a long drought. I have been MAD busy the last few months, and I've also not been wanting to procrastinate as what I've been doing has been so fun (especially interning with church).

However, I had a few days off..I organised my days off to work out so I had an elongated weekend (although technically still intern on Sundays, serving in church which to be honest I'd be doing anyway, but maybe not in as many services) and had a friend come to visit from Edinburgh, Karli.

Karli's an exchange student from California (I've been invited back so must take advantage of that) and she was in Edinburgh for the year.

She'd previously been to London and hadn't really enjoyed it that much. She did all the touristy stuff so I thought I'd show her a different, more fun, side of the big smoke. I do realise that she is stood underneath the London Eye which is incredibly touristic, however this was just on our journey..not the destination.

We headed down to South Bank and stumbled upon the Festival of Neighbourhood. They've set up a temporary allottment, which is fun. There were so many vegetables and plants, but these were the most entertaining to look at.

Karli also mentioned she wanted to see some cool street art. Here's some on the side of Wahaca.

I really want to eat at this one one day. I've been to the one at White City Westfield for a work do, last year, and that was highly enjoyable. I particularly liked their quesadillas.
Here's a bit more of the Festival of Neighbourhood.I took so many photos I'm going to leave it here for today. More to come tomorrow.Naomihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01220669689090358625noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4612750271212985349.post-5652246720601219362013-06-27T13:01:00.001+01:002013-06-27T13:01:10.570+01:00Many apologies. We finally made it to St. Andrews. Here's a photo of the monastery.

spot my Ma in the corner haha

This cheeky chappy was so close to us, rather fetching feathers.

Seeing this gravestone really made me think. That even after death this person (or their family, who knows) wanted to show the paramounce of Jesus in their life. I told my Mum I want a gravestone like this. She said she'd hope to not be around when I die, which is fair enough. So, internet world, let it be known, when I die I'd like a cross on my gravestone. Also I'd like a verse, not sure which yet, maybe from Isaiah 61, my favourite chapter currently.

This is the other side of St Andrews beach. A rocky outlay, with lots of sea- birds as well as a little family of mallard..I'll be impressed if you spot them- they blend in so well and its a surprise to see ducks on the sea anyway.

So the day after St Andrews, we packed up all of my stuff into the car, headed around the corner to put them in storage with a friend and then headed on home, with a stop in the Lake District at a friend's cabin. Which is where these photos were taken.

Oooh I love running water.
When I was younger (I think 11) a school friend got me a water feature for my birthday. This was the most unique present I'd ever received (but I'd always wanted one, I don't think I'd told her that) but that one present changed my whole perspective on gift giving. No more bubble baths or glitter girls gift bags from me- it is so totally the thought that counts.

And I realise that ending is really random, but this photo just reminded me of it and I think its important.

I've decided to post things on scheduled posts because otherwise I'd just post everything at the same time, when I have the time, but I'll see if this works and if so it'll be cool. I think so anyway :)Naomihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01220669689090358625noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4612750271212985349.post-46452634211526944482013-06-03T16:41:00.000+01:002013-06-03T16:41:34.849+01:00On to the next one

Here's the next installment on my road trip to St Andrews. We passed many award winning beaches, but just look at this!! It was such a beautiful day, although very cold.

Hence why my Mum is wearing a furry hat.

Many times we found these beaches by taking wrong turnings. One such wrong turning we ended up finding this mini-gym park. SO fun! I'd missed going to the gym that day due to packing and getting everything sorted for our journey and so this was perfect. Can you imagine going to a gym with these kinds of views!? You'd never want to leave.

A lot of the machines/equipment used your own body weight so were actually quite tough.
This is Elie, where we stopped for lunch. HOW GORGEOUS! We found a lovely little pub called The Ship Inn, apparently its award winning, we didn't even know, just stumbled upon it. We were travelling for quite a while without food and my stomach was killing me from hunger (I've had issues with this recently, too much pain from hunger, don't think its right..maybe I'm growing...hahaha unlikely)
The view itself was prize worthy.
My Mum made me pose like this.

The service was great, the staff were lovely. We both had starters, but were far too ravenous to even think to take pictures. I had a hummus with warm pitta (homemade..was fantastic) and my Mum had a Scotch egg (when in Scotland) with a beetroot and radish pickle, which was equally lovely.

For our mains we both had a half portion of haddock and chips. This was the best fish and chips I've ever had. Seriously. The batter was SO lightly delicate it was barely there, exactly what you want. The chips tasted as if they'd been cooked in truffle oil and were delightfully waxy.
Come back tomorrow for the next installment, next stop St. Andrews!Naomihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01220669689090358625noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4612750271212985349.post-64645380728710645172013-06-02T22:01:00.000+01:002013-06-02T22:01:05.541+01:00Caught up in grace like an avalancheSo I thought during the summer I'd have more time to blog. It appears I have less time; interning + working + having a social life = very little down time in which to blog. Life is good though, who wants an easy, lazy summer anyway! Its all about changing the world for the better. I'm still young and have the energy (most of the time, helped greatly by the fabulous flat white) to do lots so LEGGO.

Think I'll have some more time tomorrow and will upload more pictures from my Scotland road trip.

Being home is great. Seeing my friends makes it even better. YAY for life right now!Naomihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01220669689090358625noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4612750271212985349.post-40971170404221422042013-05-27T22:17:00.000+01:002013-05-27T22:17:11.637+01:00On my way Part ISo I've been away for a wee while. My Summer has officially begun.
Had my final exam on Thursday and then my Mum arrived in Edinburgh. We had dinner at The Albanach, which I'd been recommended by a friend. The food was good...when it arrived. This is why I have no pictures. The food took FOREVER to arrive; we knew what we wanted so ordered almost immediately, but the food took 45 minutes. I was in physical pain from hunger by the point the food arrived (I hadn't eaten since before my exam (about 12:45) and it was about 20:00 when we arrived at the restaurant). The waiter said our order had got crossed with someone elses. Not good. Food was nice though. My Mum & I shared a Balmoral Chicken & a haggis, neeps & tatties. Good Scottish fare. I felt I needed to eat Scottish food considering I'd just finished half of my degree in a Scottish university. Only 2 years to go!

The next day we headed to St. Andrews, very slowly, along the Fife Tourist Trail.

This is going over the Forth Road Bridge (the car one). It felt like we were driving into the clouds.

We accidentally headed down a cul de sac, but this beach was at the end so was very worth the detour.

There were so many of these snails on the beach. They're alive, don't worry.
I took SO many photographs this will need to be done in parts. So this concludes the first installment.Naomihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01220669689090358625noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4612750271212985349.post-33953695453498375352013-05-19T22:33:00.001+01:002013-05-19T22:34:19.638+01:00I'll tell ya what I want what I really really wantSo I said something exciting was happening...
it did.

I dyed my hair. Well, I bleached it, then dyed it due to the very dark nature of my hair I knew that just dye wouldn't work. So here's an instagram picture of the final results; I'll put more in the future, but all my technology seems to be breaking down on me at the moment.

I feel like Scary Spice. My plan is to go a bit more adventurous in the Summer, pinks, blues, maybe everything altogether (ha!) I've been checking out Bleach London's blog for inspiration. I'm excited :)

One more exam to go and then fun times!

Naomihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01220669689090358625noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4612750271212985349.post-40341348083450598572013-05-18T14:06:00.002+01:002013-05-19T22:35:24.377+01:00If you people be ballin' then boy I must be FIFACurrently I have the song Miami 2 Ibiza by Tinie Tempah & Swedish House Mafia in my head. I don't know why, I don't think I've listened to it for a while. I guess it could have been playing in the background at the gym, but yeah.

Anyway this post is just to say, I'm in my final stretch for exams, 5 days and I'm done! SO EXCITING, but can't get too excited because I have to study still.

Do you ever get to that point where you feel like you've studied all that you can and that you're just going around in circles. I'm getting there. Although post-optimality analysis is currently hindering my understanding so if you know anything about this or know anyone that does...hook a sister up.

Also something exciting happening this weekend (tomorrow) and you might find out about it if it works.

That probably makes no sense. All will become clear.Naomihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01220669689090358625noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4612750271212985349.post-85215818158495096322013-05-15T12:36:00.001+01:002013-05-15T12:36:39.620+01:00I like the way you work it

Have you heard of Chet Faker?
Check out his soundcloud I really like his music. I think it also helps that he's from Australia. As I'm pretty sure I'm in love with that country, and all its Antipodean ways.

Look at that beard. Intense.Naomihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01220669689090358625noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4612750271212985349.post-41658023380740441242013-05-12T15:46:00.001+01:002013-05-12T15:46:55.965+01:00That's just what this song's aboutI don't want to restrict myself on this blog like I used to, just purely being about fashion. I'm just going to write what I want, when I want. Hopefully I'll be more regular in it for this reason because I often think I'd like to write about something, but then I worry that it wouldn't fit in. I don't think you'd realise this if you looked through my last few posts because they are random, but my life is random, so it makes sense that my blog would be too.

So today I want to share with you my favourite songs at the moment. Hope that it is agreeable.

1. No Angels- Bastille ft Ella (TLC vs The XX)
This song just makes me feel chilled. Also being a 90s kid, it brings back memories.

2. Home Town- Rizzle Kicks
I'm pretty home sick at the moment, even though I've only been back in Edinburgh for 6 days. Maybe its worse when its been less time, I'm not sure. However, this song expresses that longing for home, the people and the memories.

3. Made Alive- Citizens
This is such a jolly song. Seriously. It just makes you want to bob up and down. Also best/truest (is that a word most true maybe?) lyrics of all these songs.

4. Flashing Room - 2AM Club
This makes me dance. I was just casually shuffling through my iPod whilst brushing my teeth then this came on and I had to dance. That is unusual for me. I am not a frequent dancer, especially whilst brushing my teeth. Hence why this song makes this list.

I realise 4 is a random number to stop at, but that's my list so, that'll be it.Naomihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01220669689090358625noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4612750271212985349.post-65750264264505351852013-05-11T19:20:00.001+01:002013-05-11T19:22:07.108+01:00On the hunt

Very possible.

They're so encouraging. I actually went to bed last night thinking 'how is it that I have such good friends in my life?' Last night was also the night before my economics final (I had it this morning, it wasn't great, wasn't horrific, so we'll see come results). I could so easily have tossed and turned, not being able to get to sleep panicking about what's on the paper AHI'MTOTESGONNAFAIL but I didn't, due to my friends being the most encouraging people (& God's Word too, reading the Bible helps)

And this isn't about being boastful, its about acknowledging my blessing. I am SO thankful for the people around me.

It makes me a bit sad that I'm not always around them, living in a different country and all that, but technology makes the world so much smaller. I realise it is only 400 miles, but its still a distance and its tough at times, but texts, facebook, instagram, twitter, oh boy you make life that bit nicer.Naomihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01220669689090358625noreply@blogger.com0
